La Casa de Mariposas (The House of the Butterflies) is the youngest Cadmus household. Just ten years ago, houseparents
Alice and Enrico met as volunteers at North Plain Farm. Alice,
a student taking a break
from Brown University, met Enrico, a volunteer from eastern Germany. Together they prepared meals, did farm chores, and cared for folks in a very
big household -- and they fell in love. They fell in love not only with each
other but with living and caring for persons with disabilities.
Today they have married and are the proud parents of four-year old
Johannes. Enrico has a business as a well-sought-after carpenter. He has
completely renovated their farmhouse into a home with state-of-the-art baths
and kitchen.
Alice
keeps music in the house with her singing and laughter. The large garden gives a feeling of country living even though the
house is only minutes from town. The three large rescue dogs -- grateful and
loveable -- and an extremely active little boy bring life and joy into this home.
Alice has temporarily returned to Providence to finish her degree. She expects to graduate in May 2012. In the meantime, the house offers respite and vacation care.
